Miles Davis - Relaxin'

Sunday at 1:40 AM

"Relaxin' and Cookin' the first two released, are the best of the bunch, even though they are very different in mood. Relaxin' is, as the name implies, extremely relaxed and laid back. It is also the only Miles Davis album ever released to contain some studio banter, apparently to demonstrate how relaxed the sessions were.

The set consists mostly of standards, typically performed by Miles with the muted horn. Many of these are ballads, even though the tempos vary. "If I Were a Bell" is fast and lightweight, surprisingly similar in mood to the version recorded by Blossom Dearie around the same time, followed by a peculiarly pensive "You're My Everything"."
